SPOT Retrieve

Local pilot, Jim Chu, put together a tool to make retrieves easier using SPOT and Twitter.  Spotretrieve.com uses the SPOT Messenger and Twitter to broadcast your GPS location when you don't have mobile phone coverage.  It makes it easy for friends and retrieve drivers follow you.   It might be useful if you:

Often fly in areas where mobile coverage is spotty or non-existent and you want to make it easier for friends and drivers to track you

Don't want to change your SPOT settings every time you change drivers and/or flying buddies

Like to broadcast your landing coordinates on Twitter every time you land

The idea is that you can show up at launch, find a driver, identify your flying buddies and they can start receiving your SPOT messages by sending a short SMS text message, "follow [yourname]", to 40404, even if you land out in a place with no mobile coverage.

Not surprisingly, some have been using it to automatically update their landing coordinates on their Twitter and Facebook pages -- good pilot PR or a great way to make your friends jealous of your good flights.
