Slide Mountain

Slide Mountain is just past the summit on highway 43, heading from Lake Tahoe to Reno/Carson City.

Slide is a HG and PG site.  It is a very technical site with strong thermals, turbulent air, a big rotor on launch and a freeway to cross to get to the LZ.  We highly recommend a site intro before flying there and please think twice before flying alone.  Slide is as east facing, leeside site.  The prevailing wind blows over the back, and down launch, everyday.  If the wind is blowing from the west, you may want to think about heading to another site.  You need to get there early enough to launch before the prevailing wind overcomes the thermal flows that track up the eastern face.  You should be ready to launch between 10:00 - 12:00.  If there are no locals there, it's probably a good idea to refrain from flying.

Daydreams is an evening ridge soaring site, with beautiful lake views. Plan to launch at about 6:00.  It also can be good during the day, when Slide isn't.

Directions to Mt. Rose

The launch is from the back-bowl ski lift of the Mt. Rose ski area. Take the second Mt. Rose Ski Area entrance (as you head to Reno).  Take highway 431 from Tahoe heading to Reno, go past the main Mt. Rose entrance (you will see a sign and the lodge) to the second entrance and continue until the road dead ends.
